Concerned stakeholders in the Egbeda/Ona-Ara Federal Constituency of Oyo State have called on Hon. Akinola Alabi and his supporters to respect the ongoing judicial process concerning the disputed candidacy for the constituency.
The stakeholders, in a statement signed by its co-ordinator, Mr. Adebanjo Aremu, and made available to journalists, expressed concern over what they described as the continued display of posters, banners and public declarations presenting Alabi as the candidate for the Egbeda/Ona-Ara Federal Constituency.
They noted that the substantive matter concerning the candidacy is still before a competent court, urging all parties involved to allow the judiciary to determine the matter without pressure or prejudice.
According to them, the interest of peace, rule of law and unity within the constituency requires all parties to exercise restraint until the court delivers its final judgment.
The stakeholders also appealed to Alabi and his supporters to direct campaign teams to suspend posters, rallies and other campaign activities relating to the disputed seat pending the court’s pronouncement.
They said the people of Egbeda and Ona-Ara deserve clarity and certainty over who would ultimately represent them, rather than what they described as confusion arising from competing claims to the candidacy.
“Let us all respect the court and wait for its final pronouncement. The law is supreme, and justice will prevail,” the statement said.
The stakeholders further urged all political actors in the constituency to avoid actions capable of heightening tension, stressing that the judicial process should be allowed to run its full course.
The call comes amid the ongoing legal dispute over the nomination for the Egbeda/Ona-Ara Federal Constituency, with the stakeholders insisting that the court should be allowed to have the final say.
They concluded with the appeal: “Ona-Ara lokan. Adio lokan. Let the court speak.”
