A fresh call for power shift in the representation of Egbeda/Ona-Ara Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives has emerged ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The call was contained in a viral audio message currently circulating among residents of the constituency, in which a narrator urged the people of Egbeda and Ona-Ara to unite in demanding what was described as equitable and rotational representation.
According to the narrator, “one family cannot do 12 years,” arguing that eight years should be sufficient for one family to occupy the federal constituency’s seat.
The narrator also questioned why Hon. Taiwo Michael Akintola, described as “our son in Ona-Ara,” was not allowed to complete eight years in the National Assembly after emerging in 2019, while another political interest was now seeking to retain the seat for 12 years.
The people of the constituency were urged to “wake up” and collectively demand what was referred to as their mandate, with the narrator insisting that the House of Representatives seat should not be regarded as the inheritance of any individual or family.
“This is our turn. Let us fight for it together. I cannot fight it alone. Please join me so we can take back our mandate,” the narrator said.
The narrator further maintained that the constituency’s federal seat belongs to the people of Egbeda and Ona-Ara and should therefore be accessible to all parts of the constituency rather than being monopolised by one family.
“This seat is not one family’s inheritance. It belongs to all of us in Egbeda and Ona-Ara Federal Constituency,” the narrator declared.
The audio message also drew attention to an ongoing court case, informing supporters and residents that the next hearing has been scheduled for October 13, 2026.
The people were urged to remain prayerful and turn out to support what was described as their mandate, with confidence expressed that the effort would succeed.
The development comes as political activities and consultations intensify in Egbeda/Ona-Ara Federal Constituency ahead of the 2027 elections, with political aspirants and stakeholders expected to canvass their positions on representation, power rotation and the future leadership of the constituency.
