Veteran journalist and publisher, Dele Momodu, has expressed concern over the credibility of the August 15, 2026 governorship election in Osun State, alleging that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) may seek to influence the outcome of the poll.
Momodu, in a message addressed to Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, via his X, described the governor as his “twin brother” and urged him to remain focused and put his trust in God ahead of the election.
He alleged that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) may not be able to conduct a free, fair and credible election in the state, claiming that the APC-led Federal Government could use the Osun election as a test for its preparations for the 2027 presidential election.
Momodu further claimed that he had received warnings from some of his friends within the APC about possible developments during the election. According to him, the alleged directive to party supporters was to secure control of Osun State “by any means necessary.”
However, he did not provide specific evidence to support the allegations or identify those he claimed had issued such a directive.
The publisher urged Adeleke not to be distracted, advising him to remain steadfast and trust in God. He also praised the governor for what he described as his “uncommon work” in the state.
Momodu added that Adeleke’s opponents should campaign on their past records, while expressing confidence that the governor enjoyed considerable support among the people.
The Osun governorship election is scheduled to hold on August 15, 2026, with Adeleke seeking another term in office amid a keenly contested race involving candidates from major political parties.
