Stakeholders of the Accord in Oyo North Senatorial District have rejected the continued representation of Alhaji Oriyomi Hamzat as the party’s governorship candidate, citing unresolved legal issues and concerns over due process.
The stakeholders made their position known at a meeting held on Monday,p September 7, 2026, in Saki, Oyo State, where they deliberated on the leadership, affairs and future direction of the party in the state.
In another related development, the stakeholders clarified that the meeting neither affirmed, endorsed nor recognised Mr. Kunle Busari, popularly known as “Gudugudu,” as the party’s governorship candidate. They maintained that there are ongoing legal matters concerning the Accord governorship candidature and stressed that all outstanding issues should be resolved through the appropriate legal and constitutional processes.
They also clarified that the meeting did not recognise or endorse any position referred to as “Gudugudu,” insisting that the party’s recognised leadership structure should be respected.
The stakeholders reaffirmed their confidence in Prince Felix Kolade Ojo, the Oyo State Chairman of Accord, and Hon. Yinka Dairo, the state Secretary, as principal members of the recognised state executive responsible for overseeing the affairs of the party alongside other duly constituted executives and leaders.
They equally expressed support for the leadership of Mogaji Igbinsola Sunday Paul, Southwest Zonal Leader of Accord, under the supervision of Hon. Adebukola Abiola Ajaja, saying their collective efforts were aimed at protecting the unity, integrity and democratic principles of the party.
The stakeholders maintained that the party’s constitution, internal rules, hierarchy, consultation and loyalty must guide the process of selecting candidates and determining leadership.
They consequently appealed to Hamzat to reconsider his position and seek another political platform through which he could pursue his governorship ambition, stating that they did not support his candidacy under the present circumstances.
The stakeholders, however, called on members and supporters of the party to remain calm, assuring that their position was taken in the interest of Accord and its members.
They also confirmed that an Accord stakeholders’ press conference would hold on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, in Ibadan, where the official communique and resolutions from the Saki meeting are expected to be made public.
