The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has reportedly declared the immediate past governor of Zamfara, Bello Matawalle, wanted over alleged corruption while in office.
Sunday Tribune reports that the EFCC, on Saturday, asked the Department of State Services (DSS) to arrest Matawalle “anywhere he is seen” in the country.
WesternLifeNewsNG however recalls that the former governor had last Friday, June 16 visited President Bola Tinubu in Aso Villa, though details of their discussion was not disclosed.
Speaking with state house correspondents after the meeting, Matawalle said President Tinubu will be the best President Nigeria has ever had following his performance since he assumed office.
At the twilight of his tenure, Matawalle, in an interview with the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), accused the now suspended EFCC chairman, Abdulrasheed Bawa, of demanding a $2m bribe from him.
The anti-graft agency had since denied the allegations, asked Matawalle to provide the evidence.
According to EFCC, the former governor was being investigated for allegedly siphoning state funds running to N70 billion through unexecuted contracts awarded to his cronies and for which money was received.
