When Dr. Mrs. Basillia Nkemdilim Igbokwe assumed the leadership mantle as the Rector of the Federal Polytechnic Nekede, her blueprint for the institution was anchored on a singular, unwavering philosophy: an inclusive administration where staff welfare is not a mere luxury, but a fundamental right. Today, that administrative ecosystem of support has borne a monumental fruit.
In an extraordinary demonstration of union-management synergy, the Non-Teaching Staff Union of Polytechnics (NOTSUP), Nekede Chapter, under the leadership of Comrade Maxwell Obijuru my, has successfully acquired, finalized, and delivered the title documents for 100 plots of land at Ogbaku to its subscribers in collaboration with Regain Hope Properties limited. Executed in less than six months, this historic, stress-free land allocation stands as a glowing testament to what can be achieved when an institutional head creates an enabling environment for staff empowerment.

A Legacy of Trust and Strategic Inclusivity
For many workers in the public sector, owning a piece of real estate is often a tedious, decades-long hurdle riddled with bureaucratic bottlenecks. Yet, the NOTSUP land scheme was completed seamlessly, a reality acknowledged by beneficiaries, especially Cherechi Alex Macaulay, who described the entire process as “stress-free, transparent, and remarkably timely”.
Speaking during the verification and reporting process, the Secretary of NOTSUP, Comrade Edith Okere, noted that the overwhelming success of the venture was anchored on a foundational culture of corporate integrity.
”Somebody paid for seven plots into my account without even knowing me or seeing me face-to-face, simply because they heard this team was in charge,” she shared during an interview session.
Comrade Ikechukwu Nwogwugwu, NOTSUP Land Committee Chairman posited that,” What we are saying is that it is good to have integrity. Once people can trust you, they can go a long way with you.”
This culture of corporate trust is a direct reflection of the institutional standard set by the Rector, Dr. Mrs. Basillia Nkemdilim Igbokwe. By operating an open-door policy and according equal premium to both teaching and non-teaching staff structures, the Rector has effectively eliminated friction, allowing unions to focus their full energy on impactful welfare initiatives.

The magnitude of this feat also drew high praise from sister unions within the institution. In a formal commendation letter addressed to Comrade Obijuru, Engr. DCN. Okechukwu E. Ekeopara, writing on behalf of members of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), lauded the project as a “profound investment in the future, welfare, and long-term financial security” of the workforce. He noted that under the current campus climate, NOTSUP has proven it can transcend routine operations to deliver life-changing legacies.
Remarks from the Rector’s Desk
Reacting to the successful distribution of the land documents to the 100 beneficiaries, the Rector, Dr. Mrs. Basillia Nkemdilim Igbokwe, expressed her profound pride in the union’s leadership and reiterated her administration’s commitment to the holistic development of the institution’s human resource.
”When we speak of an inclusive administration, this is exactly the kind of impactful outcome we envision,” the Rector stated. “The non-teaching staff are the engine room of our polytechnic’s administration, and their economic stability directly influences our institutional productivity.
“I highly commend the leadership of NOTSUP for looking beyond immediate workplace needs to secure the future of their members through real estate equity. My administration will continue to encourage and partner with every progressive union and staff structure on this campus. When our staff are happy, secure, and motivated, the Federal Polytechnic Nekede wins. This is a promise made, and together, it is a promise fulfilled.”
Setting the Pace in Workers’ Welfare
The grand finale of this project saw the official handover of the extensive master survey plans and individual allocation documents to the joyful subscribers by Surveyor Jude Ewereuzo, Regain Hope Properties limited representative.
With the land fully secured, surveyed, and legally transferred, the beneficiaries are now positioned to build a community founded on shared economic security. Comrade Maxwell Obijuru, Notsup Chairman has evidently distinguished himself and fulfilled a promise made.
As the Federal Polytechnic Nekede continues to break new ground academically and structurally, this landmark land delivery underscores a vital truth: under Dr. Mrs. Basillia Nkemdilim Igbokwe’s watchful guidance, the welfare of the staff remains paramount. Where others see challenges, the inclusivity driven administration of Nekede Poly paves the way for historic triumphs.
