Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force have rescued Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul and her 12-year-old twin sons, Peter and Paul, following a late-night tactical operation in Oyo State.
The victims, including the younger sister of former Power Minister Adebayo Adelabu, were freed unharmed at about 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 6, 2026, after security operatives engaged suspected kidnappers in a fierce gun battle, police sources said.
Mrs. John-Paul and her twin sons were abducted around 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 3, 2026, while travelling to drop the children off at school.
According to security sources, sustained intelligence gathering, tracking efforts and mounting operational pressure on the kidnappers led to the confrontation that ultimately secured the victims’ freedom.
During the exchange of fire, two suspected kidnappers were killed, while security operatives recovered two firearms from the gang.
Authorities have launched a manhunt for other members of the kidnapping syndicate who escaped the scene. Investigators believe some of the fleeing suspects may have sustained gunshot wounds during the operation.
“The victims were rescued alive and are currently undergoing medical evaluation,” a senior security officer disclosed.
“Our operatives are combing nearby areas for fleeing members of the syndicate, some of whom are believed to have escaped with gunshot wounds.”
The kidnapping occurred weeks after more than 40 students and teachers were reportedly abducted in Orire Local Government Area of Oyo State, underscoring growing concerns over insecurity in parts of the state.
