In a historic stride toward strengthening institutional partnerships, the Rector of the Federal Polytechnic Nekede, Owerri (FPNO), Dr. (Mrs.) Basilia Nkemdilim Igbokwe, on Tuesday, August 18, 2025, hosted the distinguished central leadership of the institution’s Alumni Association at her office.
The visiting delegation, led by Engr. Dr. Ben Iheakam, Council Representative of the FPNO Alumni Association, and Dr. Barr. Emma Okoro, National Representative of the Alumni body, held extensive discussions with the Rector on the Association’s renewed commitment to the institution’s growth and visibility.
Speaking during the visit, Dr. Okoro emphasized the enduring bond between the Polytechnic and its alumni community.
“The sovereignty and relevance of the FPNO Alumni remain unquestionable. We are committed to supporting the continued development of this great institution and building bridges that will further advance its legacy,” he said.
In her response, the Rector, Dr. Igbokwe, commended the foresight of the Alumni leadership, describing them as a “vital bridge between the institution and the wider society.”
She noted that the achievements of FPNO alumni across diverse fields of endeavor continue to bring honour and recognition to the Polytechnic.
“This administration is open to deeper collaborations with our alumni community. Your involvement in mentorship, infrastructural projects, and global visibility initiatives will not only enrich the culture of excellence we uphold but also ensure that FPNO remains a model Polytechnic in Nigeria and beyond,” the Rector affirmed.
Dr Igbokwe further expressed optimism that the synergy would pave the way for strategic alumni interventions in career development, research collaborations, and resource mobilization, areas critical to sustaining the Polytechnic’s leading status.
The meeting was widely described as historic, marking a renewed phase of cooperation, mutual trust, and shared institutional pride between the Federal Polytechnic Nekede and its alumni family.
