Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has raised concerns over the proposed $1.07 billion allocation for Nigeria’s health sector in the 2025 budget.
He urged the federal government to ensure the proper use of funds, warning that Nigerians should not witness a repeat of previous scandals where public money was allegedly misappropriated by animals, such as snakes and monkeys.
Atiku maintained the need for transparency and accountability, highlighting the country’s dwindling resources and reliance on foreign loans for funding.
He called on the government to provide a clear plan for the expenditure of these funds, noting that previous promises on improving healthcare infrastructure have not been fulfilled.
He Atiku criticised the government’s failure to address basic healthcare challenges and called for the scrutiny of the budget by the National Assembly to prevent fraud.
