In a bustling corner of Niger State, Suleja General Hospital has witnessed a remarkable transformation.
Under the leadership of Dr. Adedokun Adebayo Adekunle, the hospital has risen from a state of mediocrity to become a beacon of healthcare excellence.
This metamorphosis has not happened overnight but is the result of concerted efforts by a dedicated team and the support of key figures in the state’s administration.
In an exclusive interview with WesternlifeNewsNG, Dr. Adedokun shared the journey behind the hospital’s revival.
“At the outset, we thank God and acknowledge the pivotal roles played by former Governor Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello and the immediate past Commissioner of Health, Dr. Muhammed Makusidi,” he began.
He also expressed gratitude to the current Permanent Secretary, Dr. Gana Muhammed, and the present Executive Medical Director, Abdullahi Bago, along with other directors in the Ministry of Health.
“When I was transferred here, the then Commissioner of Health expressed his vision of making Suleja General Hospital the best. With his steadfast support, we have turned that vision into reality. Having a leader who supports you is crucial. We synergized with the backing of our bosses and the relentless efforts of our team,” Dr. Adedokun recounted.
“The transformation was no small feat. Renovations posed significant challenges, with staff having to adapt to shifting from one ward to another amidst the upgrades. It wasn’t easy, but our dedicated staff made it possible. Their commitment and the leadership from figures like Barrister Zakeri and His Royal Highness played vital roles. Today, anyone who visits Suleja General Hospital can see and admire the selfless service and dedication that have gone into this transformation,” he said proudly.
Dr. Adedokun’s leadership style has also been a key factor. When asked about his approach to working with the hospital staff, he said, “We work as a family. A family discusses issues together and values each member’s input. Nurses, being closest to the patients, provide invaluable insights. I believe in moving around and ensuring patients are well cared for.”
On the issue of drug authenticity, Dr. Adedokun assured that the hospital strives to provide sufficient, high-quality medications.
Hd said, “We work closely with the Niger State Government Drugs Management Agency to ensure our drugs are authentic and available. While we can’t provide everything, we monitor local pharmacies to prevent the sale of fake drugs and report any issues to the DMA.”
Looking forward, Dr. Adedokun shared his optimism about the future under the new state leadership.
“Governor Umar Bago has begun his tenure commendably, making significant strides in various sectors, including health. The ongoing work at IBB Specialist Hospital and improvements within our facility are promising. We are grateful for his efforts and wish him continued success.”
The medical director extended his heartfelt wishes to the Emir of Zazzau Suleja, Alhaji Ibrahim Awal Muhammad, praying for his long life and continued support.
Suleja General Hospital stands today as a testament to what can be achieved through vision, support, and teamwork.
Dr. Adedokun Adebayo Adekunle and his team have set a new standard for healthcare in Niger State, embodying dedication and resilience every step of the way.
