A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Oyo State, Chief Funso Owoade, has expressed confidence that the party will form the next government in the state come 2027. Owoade, who serves as the interim chairman of the party in Egbeda Local Government Area, stated this during an interview with journalists in Ibadan, where he spoke on the current state of the party, its strategies, and preparations ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Chief Owoade, popularly known as Student, dismissed claims that the ADC is losing momentum in Oyo State, insisting that the party is “very much alive and active.”
“I don’t want to believe that ADC is not gaining ground,” he said.
“Presently, our party is strategically repositioning itself at the local, state, and federal levels. We are still within the pre-campaign period, and INEC is yet to lift the ban on political campaigns. What you’re seeing from APC and PDP is noise from those already in government. When the time comes, Nigerians will feel the full presence of ADC,” he added.
Speaking on the party’s ambition for 2027, Owoade, who is also the chief security officer of the ADC said the party has built a solid structure across the 33 local government areas of the state and is ready to offer credible leadership that will prioritize the welfare of the people.
“By God’s grace, ADC will form the next government in Oyo State come 2027,” he declared confidently.
“We have strong structures in every ward and community. What the current administration is doing demolishing shops, selling public lands to developers, and displacing traders who have paid their dues and this is driving many families deeper into poverty. This must stop. ADC will restore dignity and fairness in governance.”
As the interim chairman of the ADC in Egbeda Local Government, Chief Owoade emphasised his commitment to strengthening the party’s grassroots base. He noted that his leadership, in collaboration with the state executive under Chief Olayinka Olona, is working tirelessly to ensure full integration of party structures from the community to the state level.
On the issue of zoning, the Egbeda ADC chairman explained that the party’s focus is not on regional politics but on competence and capacity.
“To be candid, zoning is not a priority for ADC at the moment. Our concern is building a formidable and sustainable political platform that can stand the test of time. What matters most is fielding credible candidates capable of tackling Nigeria’s numerous challenges. Our members are seasoned politicians and administrators with proven experience in managing people and resources,” he said.
Chief Owoade also commended the Olubadan of Ibadanland, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, for setting up a high-powered committee of industrialists, businessmen, and technocrats to revive moribund industries in Ibadan, such as Leyland, Wire and Cable, and Exide.
“This initiative is commendable. Reviving these industries will restore Ibadan’s lost industrial glory, create jobs for our youth, and reduce crime and social vices in our communities,” Owoade said.
He called on the people of Oyo State to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and prepare to vote wisely in the next election.
“The power to end bad governance is in the hands of the people,” he urged.
“I want to appeal to all eligible citizens to collect their voters’ cards and vote for ADC, a party determined to correct the mistakes of the present administration. It is time to shine our eyes and not allow ourselves to be deceived again.”
