Popular Nollywood actor Taiwo Hassan, widely known as Ogogo, has died after a prolonged battle with cancer.
The actor’s death was confirmed by several sources, including Seun Oloketuyi, founder of Best of Nollywood, who announced the sad news on social media.
Oloketuyi, in a brief tribute, wrote: “Taiwo Hassan Ogogo is dead. He finally lost the battle of life.”
The news also triggered an emotional reaction from Ogogo’s daughter, Kaira Taiwo, who was seen in tears during an Instagram Live session on Sunday. She expressed shock and disbelief over the loss of her father.
Fellow actor and filmmaker Saheed Balogun also paid tribute to the deceased veteran, praying for his eternal rest.
In an Instagram post, Balogun wrote: “Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un. You can rest now my brother Taiwo Hassan Ogogo. May Almighty Allah guide you through Aljannah. This is truly painful.”
Ogogo’s death came shortly after his daughters, Kaira and Lima Taiwo, publicly sought medical assistance for their father, who was reportedly suffering from stage-four cancer.
On Monday, August 17, 2026, the sisters appealed on social media for medical advice and support, following the deterioration of the actor’s health.
Kaira had disclosed that doctors treating her father informed the family that chemotherapy could no longer be administered because of his condition. The family subsequently began exploring other treatment options, including specialised medical procedures and traditional remedies.
Taiwo Hassan was a highly respected figure in the Nigerian film industry, particularly in Yoruba-language cinema, where he established himself as one of the prominent actors and contributed significantly to the growth of the industry.
His death is expected to be widely mourned by colleagues, fans and admirers across Nigeria and beyond.
