In a defining moment that reflects its growing influence and commitment to purposeful partnerships, Federal Polytechnic Nekede once again demonstrated why it remains a beacon of excellence in Nigeria’s polytechnic education landscape. The institution recently played host to a distinguished delegation from the Nigerian Legion, Imo State Council,an engagement that goes beyond ceremonial courtesy to signal a shared vision for institutional growth and national development.
The meeting, held on Thursday, April 2, 2026, at the Polytechnic’s Council Chamber, brought together respected figures united by service, leadership, and a commitment to progress. Leading the Legion’s delegation was Col Onyenadiri Edwin (rtd), accompanied by key executive members. They were warmly received by the Rector, Dr. Mrs. Basilia Nkemdilim Igbokwe, whose administration continues to position the institution as a hub for strategic collaborations.
Also present were top principal officers of the Polytechnic, including the Deputy Rector (Academic), Dr. Obinna Iwueke; the Registrar, Mr. Stanley Ugochukwu Njoku; and the Polytechnic Librarian, Dr. Charles Obichere, a testament to the importance the institution places on the visit.

In a clear and purposeful presentation, Col. Onyenadiri outlined the mission of the delegation. At its core were three objectives: to formally acquaint the Rector with the existence and activities of the Nigerian Legion, Imo State Council; to explore meaningful areas of collaboration between the Legion and the Polytechnic; and to respectfully request consideration for admission opportunities for children and wards of Legion members, in line with institutional procedures.
Beyond these requests, the visit illuminated the enduring relevance of the Nigerian Legion as a body of disciplined and experienced veterans drawn from the Army, Navy, and Air Force. Their wealth of experience in security operations and commitment to national service positions them as valuable partners, particularly in supporting institutional order and emergency response systems.

Responding with warmth and clarity, the Rector, Dr. Igbokwe, welcomed the delegation and paid tribute to the sacrifices and contributions of the Nigerian Legion to national peace and stability. She reaffirmed the Polytechnic’s identity as an inclusive and forward-looking institution, one that embraces partnerships capable of driving both academic excellence and societal impact.
While assuring the delegation that their requests would receive due consideration in line with established policies and standards, the Rector emphasized the institution’s unwavering commitment to fairness, merit, and excellence. She further noted that collaborations with reputable organizations like the Nigerian Legion align seamlessly with the Polytechnic’s vision of fostering a secure, disciplined, and academically conducive environment.

More than just an official visit, the engagement stands as a powerful narrative of synergy, where education meets experience, and institutional growth intersects with national service. It underscores Federal Polytechnic Nekede’s proactive approach to stakeholder engagement and its continuous drive to remain at the forefront of polytechnic education in Nigeria.
As the institution continues to build bridges with credible partners, this renewed relationship with the Nigerian Legion signals not just collaboration, but a shared commitment to shaping a more secure, disciplined, and progressive society.
