Former Governor of Sokoto State and ex-Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has formally resigned his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Tambuwal made the announcement in a statement posted on his 𝕏 handle in the early hours of Thursday, explaining that persistent internal crises, leadership disagreements and deepening divisions within the PDP compelled his decision to leave the party.

The former governor disclosed that he had officially communicated his resignation in writing to his ward chairman before proceeding to enlist in the ADC alongside his political associates and supporters.

According to him, the PDP played a significant role in shaping his political career, including his tenure as Speaker of the House of Representatives and his two-term service as governor of Sokoto State, but noted that the party’s deteriorating internal cohesion had made his continued stay untenable.

“The persistent internal crisis, leadership disagreements, and growing divisions within the PDP have made it increasingly difficult to continue my membership of the party,” Tambuwal stated, adding that the situation had weakened the unity and direction that once defined the party.

Explaining his decision to join the ADC, Tambuwal said he believes the party offers a stronger platform capable of advancing democratic ideals and national development.

He stressed that his move was guided by the conviction that Nigeria needs a political platform built on integrity, accountability, inclusiveness and a clear commitment to the country’s progress, while reaffirming his dedication to democracy, justice and national unity.
