The 2026 edition of the Okanlomo Odua Veterans Football League commenced in grand style on Sunday, February 15, 2026, as Wesley Ambassador Legends and Ibadan City All Stars (ICAS) Legends battled to an entertaining 1–1 draw at Ilaji Stadium, Oloyo Village, Akanran, Ibadan.


Despite their veteran status, both sides displayed impressive skill, tactical discipline, and flashes of brilliance that thrilled the large crowd of football enthusiasts who trooped out to witness the opening fixture. The two goals were scored in the second half, adding intensity and excitement to an already competitive encounter.
The match attracted notable dignitaries and sports lovers, including Hon. Sunday Adewusi, former Chairman of Ibadan North East Local Government and Chairman of the Oyo State Sports Council, alongside several football legends who graced the occasion.

Speaking at the event, the Oyo State Coordinator of the Pacesetters Humanitarian Support Organization and promoter of the league, Mogaji Igbinsola Sunday Paul, commended Chief Jubril Dotun Sanusi, the Okanlomo Odua and Bada Olubadan, for his sole and massive sponsorship of the tournament. He noted that the support of the respected philanthropist has significantly elevated the prestige and organization of the competition.

Mogaji Igbinsola disclosed that six teams are currently participating in the league, with the possibility of expansion to seven teams in due course. He further announced that the next round of matches will take place at Oba Adeyemi Stadium in Oyo town after the Ramadan festival.

To further boost competitiveness, he revealed attractive prize money for participating teams. The overall winner will take home ₦1 million, while the runners-up will receive ₦500,000. The third-placed team will earn ₦300,000, and the fourth-placed team will go home with ₦200,000.

The highlight of the opening day was the presentation of the Player of the Week award to Allen Edufere of ICAS for his outstanding performance. The award was presented by the Matron of the Pacesetters Humanitarian Support Organization and Special Guest of Honour, Chief Mrs. Omolola Odekunbi, to loud applause from the spectators.

A sport enthusiast, Mr Dare Adewale, who spoke with WesternLifeNewsNG, after the event, said “with a competitive start and strong backing from key stakeholders, the Okanlomo Odua Veterans Football League promises an exciting season that celebrates football excellence and camaraderie among seasoned players.”
