Tinubu’s Late Arrival Holds Up Olubadan Coronation, Crowd Grows Anxious

The much-anticipated coronation of His Imperial Majesty, Oba Senator Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, as the Olubadan of Ibadanland was temporarily held up on Friday afternoon as thousands of people waited anxiously for the arrival of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

By minutes past 2:00 p.m., the President had yet to arrive at the venue, causing a lull in proceedings. The entire city had earlier been enveloped in celebration, with long queues of residents and supporters stretching from Iwo Road down to the venue. Many also lined both sides of the airport road, waving and chanting, eager to welcome the President’s convoy.

While several dignitaries and members of the presidential advance team had already taken their seats, the absence of the President began to create unease among the crowd, who remained patient but visibly restless. Security operatives were seen tightening surveillance around the area in anticipation of his arrival.

The delay, however, did not dampen the overall excitement in the city, as Ibadan remained agog with celebration in honour of the installation of Oba Ladoja, whose ascension to the throne has been described as historic and unifying for Ibadanland.
