Rector Of FedPoly Nekede Authorizes Distribution Of Fire-Fighting Equipment

In a major stride toward enhancing safety across the Polytechnic, the Directorate of Safety and Emergency Response Unit (S&ERU), led by Engr. Dr. M. U. Anyaehie, carried out the distribution of newly procured fire-fighting equipment on Thursday, July 17, 2025. This initiative followed the directive of the Rector, Dr. Mrs. Basilia N. Igbokwe.

This development marks yet another landmark achievement of the current administration and underscores the Rector’s proactive leadership and unwavering commitment to ensuring a safe and secure work and learning environment.

According to a statement from the Office of the Special Assistant to the Rector on Media Matters, the Rector, approved this vital exercise as part of broader efforts to uphold occupational safety and health standards within the Polytechnic community.

The following Schools, Divisions, and Units benefitted from the deployment of these life-saving devices: Hospitality Management received 2 fire blankets and 2 × 3kg CO₂ fire extinguishers; the School of Humanities and Social Sciences (SHSS) received 2 × 9kg DCP, 2 × 5kg CO₂, and 2 × 6kg fire extinguishers; the Evening Programme received 2 × 6kg DCP and 1 × 3kg CO₂ fire extinguisher; the Weekend Programme received 2 × 6kg DCP and 1 × 3kg CO₂ fire extinguisher; the School of Business and Management Technology (SBMT) received 2 × 9kg DCP, 2 × 5kg CO₂, 2 × 6kg DCP, and 2 × 3kg CO₂ fire extinguishers.

Others include the School of Environmental Design and Technology (SEDT), which received 4 × 5kg CO₂, 3 × 9kg DCP, and 3 × 6kg DCP fire extinguishers; the Rectory received 1 × 50kg DCP fire extinguisher; the Registry and Bursary each received 2 × 5kg CO₂ fire extinguishers, while the Old Engineering Power Switch Room received 1 × 3kg CO₂ fire extinguisher.

Representatives of the various beneficiary units expressed immense appreciation to the Rector and the S&ERU team for the timely intervention.

They described the distribution as not just timely but as a clear demonstration of the administration’s genuine concern for the safety of lives and property.

Dr. Anthony Egu, Supervisor of the Polytechnic Hospitality Canteen, praised the Rector for her foresight, noting that the equipment arrived precisely when needed.

Similarly, Dr. Mrs. Juliana Njoku, Director of the Evening Programme, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Rector and the S&ERU for the thoughtful gesture.

The administration of Dr. Mrs. Basilia N. Igbokwe remains relentless in its quest to fortify workplace safety and promote a healthy, secure environment for all members of the Polytechnic community.
