The Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII) has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic loss of young lives in the stampede that occurred on Wednesday in Ibadan, Oyo state capital.
The heartbreaking incident occured as participants attempted to force their way through the main gate of the venue, resulting in a fatal crush.
In a statement signed by the President General, Chief Barr. Sulaimon Ajewole Ajeniyi, and made available to newsmen by the Public Relations Officer, Mr. Kola Olomide, the council conveyed its heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims, the Oyo State Government, and the Olubadan of Ibadan.
“The CCII stands with the bereaved families in this moment of grief. We also extend our sympathies to the government and people of Oyo State as well as His Imperial Majesty, the Olubadan of Ibadan. This tragic event is a painful reminder of the need for caution and crowd control measures at public gatherings,” the statement read.
The council also urged citizens to remain vigilant during the Yuletide season and prioritize safety. “We enjoin all to embrace safe practices and avoid actions that could endanger lives, especially during these challenging economic times. Let us work together to prevent such unfortunate incidents in the future.”
The CCII reiterated its commitment to supporting efforts that prioritize the safety and well-being of all Ibadan residents.
