Following the order of the federal high court in Gusau, Zamfara state capital, the state government has returned the fifty three vehicles evacuated from the former governor, Bello Matawalle’s residence.
The police has last week stormed, allegedly on the order of the state Governor Dauda Lawal, the residence of the former governor to seize the vehicles
Before this development, it was reported by some media outlets that only 17 vehicles were seized.
The immediate commissioner for information in the state, Ibrahim Dosara however disclosed in an interview on Arise Morning Show on Monday that fifty three cars were taken away.
He however confirmed that police has complied with court order by returning same.
According to him, most of cars forcefully took away from the compound of the former governor by police, included those donated to the governor by associates and ones used to prosecute the 2023 presidential campaign of the All Progressives Congress.
Matawalle was the Northwest co-ordinator of the defunct APC presidential campaign council.
Mr Dosara disagreed that the whole vehicles impounded by the police belonged to the state government, disclosing that Mr Matawalle was a car dealers in the United States of America, even before he became governor.
The former commissioner described the order to seize the vehicles by the state governor Dauda Lawal as unfortunate, saying there is a law on ground that former after the state governor, commissioners and other political office holders are entitled to certain privileges.
Meanwhile, the report that the former governor has been declared wanted by Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has been described as false.
The anti graft agency stated that it never issue statement, declaring former Zamfara State Governor, Matawalle wanted.
The EFCC also denied soliciting the assistance of the secret police, Department of State Services to arrest the former governor.
