Senior Pastor Idowu Iluyomade of the City of David Parish has resigned following his suspension by the church’s governing council.
His suspension came after his wife, Siju, held an extravagant 60th birthday party shortly after the death of prominent church member Herbert Wigwe in a helicopter crash.
The celebration was criticised as insensitive, leading to backlash from the church community and the Wigwe family.
Pastor Charles Kpendei has replaced Iluyomade, who was asked to report to the church headquarters pending an investigation.
Displeased with the suspension and transfer, Iluyomade chose to leave the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG).
