Senator Jimoh Ibrahim has withdrawn his lawsuit against the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Ondo Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa.
The suit, which challenged the outcome of the APC gubernatorial primary election in Ondo State, was withdrawn following intervention from President Bola Tinubu.
Ibrahim initially filed the suit citing irregularities in the election process, claiming there was no voting in his senatorial district and a large portion of the state.
The withdrawal came after Ibrahim was suspended from the APC by executives in Igbotako Ward II, Okitipupa Local Government Area, for alleged anti-party activities and insubordination.
In a statement, Ibrahim explained that he withdrew the suit in deference to President Tinubu, who assured him of improving internal democracy within the party. Governor Aiyedatiwa had also visited Ibrahim to discuss the issue.
Emphasizing his respect for the President, Ibrahim expressed gratitude for Tinubu’s intervention and commitment to internal democracy.
He stated that his decision to withdraw the suit coincides with the first anniversary of the President’s tenure, considering it a gift to mark the occasion.
“Let me use this opportunity to thank Mr. President for the words of wisdom and encouragement during my meeting with him which lasted over one hour and his various interactions with me on the telephone during which he emphasized his commitment to internal democracy over and over again. Thank you, Mr. President.
“The withdrawal of this legendary suit coincides with the first anniversary of Mr. President’s incredible performance in office, and this is my gift of the ‘cake’ of the first anniversary!,” the senator said.
