Tinubu Promises Economic Reforms, Stronger Naira In 2025 New Year Address

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in his New Year message to Nigerians, outlined ambitious plans for 2025, promising economic reforms, a stronger Naira, and measures to ease the financial burdens on citizens.

Acknowledging the difficulties faced by Nigerians in 2024, including high inflation and rising food and drug costs, Tinubu assured that the federal government would intensify efforts to lower costs and stabilize the economy.

He revealed plans to reduce inflation from 34.6% to 15% by boosting food production, promoting local manufacturing, and expanding access to credit for individuals and businesses.

Key among the government’s initiatives is the establishment of the National Credit Guarantee Company, expected to begin operations by mid-year.

Tinubu stated that the new institution would improve credit access, particularly for underserved groups like women and youth, while driving economic growth and re-industrialization.

The president highlighted encouraging economic trends, including a stronger Naira, increased foreign reserves, and record growth in the stock market, which he attributed to renewed investor confidence.

However, he urged continued patience and unity, stating that sacrifices made by citizens over the past 19 months would soon yield positive results.

In addition to economic reforms, Tinubu announced plans to foster patriotism and shared national values through the launch of a National Values Charter in the first quarter of 2025.

This initiative, according to Nigeria’s leader, will be complemented by a national orientation campaign and the inaugural Youth Confab, aimed at promoting inclusiveness and youth participation in nation-building.

Tinubu also commended state governors who have embraced the federal government’s Compressed Natural Gas initiative and adoption of electric vehicles as part of Nigeria’s energy transition strategy.

Reiterating his commitment to building a one-trillion-dollar economy and fostering sustainable growth, Tinubu called on Nigerians to stay focused and united, transcending political, ethnic, and religious divides.

“Together, let us stay the course of nation-building. The New Year will bring us closer to the Nigeria of our dreams,” the president said.
