Omoyele Sowore, the former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) in both the 2019 and 2023 elections, has been released by the Nigerian Immigration Service after a brief detention on Sunday morning.
His international passport, which had been confiscated, was also returned to him.
Sowore, known for his outspoken criticism of the Nigerian government, was arrested immediately upon landing in Nigeria from Washington Dulles International Airport at 9:43 a.m. (WAT).
His detention came, following a directives by the Department of State Services (DSS) to airport security and immigration authorities to intercept him upon his return, in response to his l involvement in the recent 10-day #EndBadGovernance protests, where he played a prominent role.
