Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, has claimed that her troubles in the Senate began after she rejected the alleged advances of Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
Speaking on Arise TV, she likened her experience to a student being unfairly punished for refusing inappropriate demands.
Akpoti-Uduaghan also addressed the controversy surrounding her seating arrangement in the Senate, asserting that lawmakers can speak from any position when discussing privilege issues.
She revealed that Senator Ireti Kingibe privately contacted her, not to support her but to criticize her for filing a defamation lawsuit against Akpabio.
Responding to Akpabio’s past remarks about the Senate being like a nightclub, she alleged that he once personally suggested organizing a private party for senators to “have fun.”
Additionally, the Kogi senator denied corruption allegations made in a petition submitted by a northern youth group, claiming it was an attempt to pressure her into misusing committee funds.
Recounting an incident on December 18, 2023, Akpoti-Uduaghan described how Akpabio allegedly made suggestive remarks while showing her around his house in Uyo. She said her husband was present during the encounter and later questioned her about what was said.
She further alleged that Senate leadership warned her against openly challenging Akpabio, cautioning that any scandal involving him could also harm her political career.
