PRESS STATEMENT: Rector Of Federal Polytechnic Nekede Hosts Special Assistant To Imo State Governor On Narcotics And Illicit Drug Monitoring

The Rector of Federal Polytechnic Nekede, Owerri, Dr. Mrs. Basilia Igbokwe, on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, received Chief Ezechukwu N. Obonna, Special Assistant to the Imo State Governor on Narcotics and Illicit Drug Monitoring, during a courtesy visit to the institution.

Chief Ezechukwu, who was accompanied by his team, expressed his appreciation to the Rector for the warm reception and commended the President of the Federal Polytechnic Nekede, Owerri Women’s Association (FEPNOWA), Mrs. Luke-Odoemena Ijeoma, for her remarkable efforts in organizing a workshop on narcotics and illicit drug abuse prevention.

Speaking during the visit, the Special Assistant reaffirmed the commitment of the Executive Governor of Imo State, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma, to combating insecurity through proactive measures. He stated the importance of preventive strategies in addressing drug-related issues and noted that his team’s engagement with the Polytechnic community would contribute significantly to raising awareness on the dangers of narcotics and illicit substances.

In her remarks, the President of FEPNOWA, Mrs. Luke-Odoemena Ijeoma, highlighted that the sensitization program aligns with the association’s mission to support the Rector’s 11-Point Agenda. She reiterated FEPNOWA’s dedication to initiatives that enhance student welfare and institutional development.

The Rector, Dr. Mrs. Basilia Igbokwe, commended FEPNOWA’s proactive approach and emphasized the urgency of addressing drug abuse as a critical national concern. She lauded Chief Ezechukwu for prioritizing the Polytechnic in his sensitization campaign despite his demanding schedule and pledged the institution’s readiness to collaborate in tackling drug abuse among youths.

Also in attendance was the Dean of the Division of Student Affairs, Dr. Saint Paul Christopher, who delivered the vote of thanks. He acknowledged the honor of the SA’s visit and reaffirmed the Polytechnic’s commitment to supporting government-led initiatives aimed at curbing drug abuse.
