Pro-Democracy Groups Mourn As Chief Bisi Akande Loses Son-in-Law

The pro-democracy community is in mourning following the death of Barrister Oyedele Clement Akintola, the son-in-law of Chief Bisi Akande, a prominent leader in Afenifere/NADECO and former Governor of Osun State.

Mr Akintola, aged 60, passed away on Wednesday, July 3, 2024. He was married to Chief Akande’s first daughter, Mrs. Bolaji Akintola (née Akande).

Chief Bisi Akande, a significant figure in Nigerian politics and newly appointed Chairman of the Governing Council at the University of Ibadan, is receiving an outpouring of condolences from various quarters.

The National Coordinator of the Coalition of Pro-Democracy Groups for A Better Nigeria, Comrade Awa Bamiji, expressed profound sorrow at the news, highlighting the need to support Chief Akande during this challenging period.

In a heartfelt message, Comrade Bamiji urged the public to rally around Chief Akande, affectionately known as “Baba Omo Kekeke,” and provide comfort through messages of condolence.

He stated the inevitability of death and the importance of spiritual preparedness.

In a related development, condolences were extended by Chief Pop-Olorogun Adebanjo, President of Apapo Omo Odu’a, and Abdulhameed Mutiu Raji, a member of the Newspapers’ Vendors’ Association of Nigeria, Ibadan Northwest.

Both offered prayers for Akintola’s soul and comfort for the bereaved family.
