Outrage As Nigerians Demand Justice For Murdered FUNAAB Student, Idowu Christianah

NigeriansOutrage As Nigerians Demand Justice For Murdered FUNAAB Student, Idowu Christianah have taken to social media to demand justice for Idowu Christianah, a student at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), who was allegedly murdered by Ayomide Adeleye, a 200-level student of Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU).

The call for justice gained traction on Wednesday, September 4, when a Twitter user, @letter_to_jack, highlighted the case, sparking a viral #JusticeForChristianah campaign.

Christianah was reported missing on August 19, 2024, after her abductors reached out to her family through her WhatsApp account, sending distressing photos of her in captivity.

They demanded a ₦1.5 million ransom, but her family was only able to raise ₦350,000, which was transferred to a betting account as per the kidnappers’ instructions.

After receiving the payment, the abductors requested a copy of the family’s bank statement.

However, communication with them ceased after the family complied on August 23. Investigators traced some of the ransom funds, discovering that portions had been transferred to Christianah’s GTB account and then moved to a Wema Bank account linked to Ayomide Adeleye.

Tracking of these accounts led to the revelation that Ayomide, who had withdrawn ₦100,000 from the betting account before it was frozen, had a personal connection to Christianah via Instagram.

Authorities from the 174 Battalion arrested Ayomide after tracing his phone to his family’s home in Ikorodu. Incriminating evidence, including Christianah’s phone and bank records, was found on his device.

On September 3, Ayomide confessed to killing Christianah and burying her at his family’s home.

Shocking details emerged suggesting he may have been involved in the suspicious deaths of his ex-girlfriend in 2018 and his sister in 2020.

The case has sparked widespread outrage, with many Nigerians expressing their anger and demanding accountability using the #JusticeForChristianah hashtag.
