Following the suspension of Mr Tajudeen Odetayo, rector of Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, by Governor Ademola Adeleke, staff and students of the institution on Tuesday embarked on peaceful protest.
While some of the students, are carrying placards, chanting protest songs at the front of the institution, the staff, under the auspices of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, OSPOLY Iree Chapter, have suspended academic activities at the institution.
The chairman of the union, Fatai Afolabi, addressing newsmen on Tuesday, said the suspension of the rector did not follow due process and was unacceptable.
Afolabi said the union was holding an emergency congress to review the situation.
Governor Adeleke had in a statement signed on Monday by the Permanent Secretary of the state Ministry of Education, M.A.K. Jimoh suspended Odetayo and subsequently announced Alabi Adeyemi, as the acting rector with immediate effect.
