Liverpool have officially announced that Arne Slot will replace Jurgen Klopp as the club’s manager. The 45-year-old Dutch coach from Feyenoord will assume the role on June 1, pending a work permit.
While Liverpool did not disclose the contract length, Sky Sports reports that Slot has signed a three-year deal. The club has agreed to a compensation package with Feyenoord worth up to £9.4 million ($12 million).
Slot confirmed his move to Liverpool during his final press conference with Feyenoord on Friday. Klopp, who announced his departure in January, managed his last game on Sunday, leading Liverpool to a 2-0 victory over Wolves. In his farewell address, Klopp encouraged fans to fully support Slot.
“You welcome the new manager like you welcomed me,” Klopp said. “You go all-in from the first day. And you keep believing and you push the team.”
Slot joined Feyenoord in 2021 after a successful stint at AZ Alkmaar. In his first season, he led Feyenoord to the Europa Conference League final, where they narrowly lost to Roma. Slot then guided the team to their first league title in 24 years and secured a three-year contract extension.
Reflecting on his departure from Feyenoord, Slot said, “You can see people are genuinely sorry you are leaving. You can say that with words, but when you see it in people’s faces, it affects me quite a lot.”
Feyenoord had a strong season under Slot, winning the Dutch Cup and finishing second in the league to PSV Eindhoven.
