In a significant development, the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) identified social media figure Okuneye Idris, popularly known as Bobrisky, as a person of interest in a current investigation.
Earlier on Monday, NIS officers intercepted him at the Sème border while he attempted to flee the country.
In an official statement, Public Relations Officer Kenneth Udo noted, “The Service wishes to inform the public that Okuneye Idris is a person of interest over recent issues of public concern.”
The scrutiny surrounding Bobrisky intensified following his six-month prison sentence for naira abuse handed down by the Federal High Court in Lagos in April 2024.
While he was expected to serve his term at Kirikiri Prison, reports surfaced claiming he was moved to a private location after just three weeks, leading to allegations of bribery involving a N15 million payment to secure preferential treatment.
The controversy deepened in late September when social media influencer VeryDarkMan released an audio recording that purportedly captured Bobrisky making serious allegations against music artist Falz and his father, prominent human rights lawyer Femi Falana.
According to the recording, Bobrisky claimed that the Falanas sought N10 million from him to secure a presidential pardon.
In response, Falz and his father issued a cease-and-desist letter on October 16, demanding a public retraction and apology for what they deemed defamatory statements.
Bobrisky however todenied the allegations and distanced himself from the leaked recording, suggesting that the Falanas should direct their concerns toward VeryDarkMan.
Following the interception, the NIS confirmed that Bobrisky is currently undergoing interrogation and will be referred to the appropriate authorities for further action. The Service emphasized its commitment to maintaining civil and professional operations in securing the nation’s borders.
