NFF Moves To Hire New Foreign Coach Amid Super Eagles’ Poor Performance

The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) has apologised to Nigerians for the Super Eagles’ dismal performance in recent matches and has announced plans to hire a new foreign coach to revamp the team.

The NFF Executive Committee, which met on Wednesday, June 12, acknowledged the team’s poor output in four out of 10 matches in the ongoing 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification series and pledged to ensure a better-prepared squad for upcoming tournaments.

The committee resolved to employ an expatriate Technical Adviser for the Super Eagles ahead of the AFCON 2025 qualifiers in September and the resumption of the World Cup qualifiers in March 2025.

The NFF also plans to beef up its Technical Department with more qualified staff and re-jig its Technical and Development Sub-Committee.

Nigeria’s football body also expressed displeasure with some players’ poor attitude towards national assignments and decided to implement a more robust scouting program to identify outstanding Nigeria-eligible players worldwide.

The committee also resolved to convene a Stakeholders’ Forum to deliberate on amendments to the NFF Statutes in conjunction with FIFA and announced its support for the Senior Women National Team, Super Falcons, ahead of the Women’s Olympic Football Tournament in France.
