Organisers of the nationwide #EndBadGovt protest have issued a stern warning to security agencies, stating that any attack on protesters will lead to demands for President Bola Tinubu and his entire cabinet to resign.
The Nigeria Police Force, Nigerian Army, State Security Service, and other security agencies have cautioned protesters against proceeding with the demonstration.
They cited concerns over potential violence, referencing the deaths and destruction from the October 2020 #EndSARS protest and the Kenyan uprising.
In a social media flier promoting the protest, organizers outlined a 10-point agenda and warned that any harm to protesters would escalate their demands.
“During this protest, if one protester is killed, maimed, or arrested, we will not back down until Tinubu and his entire cabinet step down,” the flier stated.
Despite threats and claims by government officials that the protest is sponsored by foreign mercenaries, organizers are determined to proceed with the demonstration on August 1, 2024.
The protest aims to highlight the hunger and hardship caused by President Bola Tinubu’s economic policies since he took office on May 29, 2023.
