Movie Review: “Aye Ninu Aye”: Olalekan Tijani’s Cinematic Exploration Of Love, Loss, Afterlife

A popular actor and producer Olalekan Tijani has unveiled his latest film, “Aye Ninu Aye,” a project six years in the making that delves into the mysteries of life, death, and existence beyond our world. Inspired by personal loss, Tijani’s film promises to captivate audiences with its unique storyline and profound themes.

The inspiration for “Aye Ninu Aye” came to Tijani six years ago after the mysterious death of a loved one. Her prolonged illness, memory loss, and subsequent death, followed by a month of dream communication, deeply affected Tijani.

“She told me in my dream one day that she has relocated to another world and I should continue my own life,” Tijani recalled during an interview with WesternlifenewsNG

This experience spurred his curiosity and led him to explore existential questions, ultimately forming the foundation of his film.

The film follows the story of Abisoye, whose life is shattered by the death of his wife, Yetunde. Despite conclusive evidence of her death, Abisoye’s unwavering love leads him on a journey to another Earth, where Yetunde’s spirit has married another man, Gbadewaye. This supernatural journey sets the stage for a dramatic confrontation between Abisoye and Gbadewaye.

“Aye Ninu Aye” touches on themes of love, loss, and the afterlife, urging audiences to contemplate the possibility of another existence beyond our current one.

“I want the audience to believe in Yoruba storyline and filmmaking,” Tijani emphasised, aiming to bring cultural narratives to the forefront.

As with many ambitious projects, Tijani faced significant challenges, primarily financial.

“The main challenge is money because to do a mystery story requires money,” he admitted.

Balancing his dual roles as producer and actor was another hurdle, but Tijani managed by delegating responsibilities effectively.

The film features a talented ensemble cast, including Fisayo Amodemaja, Tunde Ola Yusuf, Lalude, Adeyemi Adeyemo, and Princes Adejumoke Ademiluyi, among others. Tijani praised the commitment of his cast, stating that their dedication to filmmaking made them the perfect fit for their roles.

A particularly memorable moment during production occurred on the second day when they were expecting Lalude on set, only to learn he was hospitalised. This unexpected event forced a rescheduling of the shooting plan, showcasing the team’s adaptability.

“Aye Ninu Aye” stands out from Tijani’s previous works due to its extraordinary storyline that explores realms beyond Earth. Having previously worked on “Elerokero” (2016) and “Oko Won” (2017), and featured in over 50 movies, Tijani describes this film as “not an ordinary story.”

Through “Aye Ninu Aye,” Tijani conveys a poignant message: “Lovers need to understand that, when death takes one of them, the other must replan his/her life.”

This theme of resilience and adaptation is central to the film’s narrative.

Reflecting on the filming experience, Tijani shared an intriguing encounter at Gaa Fulani, describing it as a place that felt like another world, adding to the film’s mystical atmosphere.

With “Aye Ninu Aye,” Olalekan Tijani delivers a compelling narrative that intertwines personal grief with broader existential questions, aiming to leave a lasting impact on audiences.
