LP Names Senator Esther Usman As Chairman of Caretaker Committee Amid Leadership Crisis

The Labour Party (LP) has taken a decisive step to address its ongoing leadership crisis by appointing Senator Esther Nenadi Usman as the Chairman of its newly formed Caretaker Committee.

The announcement was made during a stakeholders’ meeting held on Wednesday in Umuahia, the capital of Abia State.

Senator Usman, who previously served as Nigeria’s Minister of Finance and represented Kaduna South in the Senate from 2011 to 2015, will lead a 29-member committee.

This committee is tasked with the critical responsibility of reorganizing the party and steering it toward electoral success.

The Caretaker Committee has a 90-day mandate to complete its assignment.

Among its key responsibilities is the organization of a convention to elect new party leadership, from the ward level up to the national stage.

Serving as the Secretary of the committee is Senator Darlington Nwokocha, the immediate-past Deputy Senate Minority Leader representing Abia Central.
