Legendary Socialite ‘Cash Madam,’ Princess Kadijat Abike Edionseri, Passes Away At 89

Princess Kadijat Abike Adebisi Edionseri, popularly known as ‘Cash Madam,’ a legendary Nigerian socialite and toast of musicians in the 60s and 70s, has passed away at the age of 89.

Her demise was announced in a statement by one of her sons, Dr. Adebayo Adebowale, on behalf of the family. According to the statement, Princess Edionseri died on January 5, 2025, following a brief illness.

“With deep gratitude to Allah for a life well-lived, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Princess Kadijat Abike Adebisi Edionseri (née Elegbede), who returned to her Creator on 5th January 2025 at the age of 89, following a brief illness,” the statement read.

The funeral will take place on Monday, January 6, 2025, at her residence in the Government Reservation Area (GRA), Ibara, Abeokuta. The rites will commence at 4:00 PM in accordance with Islamic traditions.

The family described her as a shining example of grace, dignity, and unwavering faith.

“Her life was a beacon of wisdom, kindness, and dedication to both her family and community. She taught us the values of love, resilience, and faith in Allah, leaving behind a legacy that will inspire generations,” the statement noted.

Her sobriquet, ‘Cash Madam,’ was bestowed upon her by Juju music legend Chief Commander Ebenezer Obey in the 80s, highlighting her generosity and opulence.

A successful businesswoman, she had been a millionaire since her 30s and was known for her love of fashion, style, and beauty. She was a celebrated figure not just in Ogun State but across Nigeria, with her elegance and philanthropy leaving an indelible mark on the social scene.

“As we grieve this monumental loss, we also celebrate the remarkable life she lived. Her laughter, warmth, and values will forever remain in our hearts. May Allah forgive her shortcomings and grant her Jannatul Firdaus,” the family concluded.

Princess Edionseri’s legacy of grace and philanthropy will be remembered for generations, and her influence on Nigeria’s social and cultural fabric will remain unparalleled.
