Omowunmi Adebanjo, the widow of late Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, known as Mohbad, has agreed to undergo a DNA test to confirm the paternity of their son, Liam.
This development follows a lawsuit filed by Mohbad’s father, Joseph Aloba, seeking the DNA test.
Efforts to serve Omowunmi initially failed, prompting the Magistrates Court in Ikorodu, Lagos, to recommend alternative dispute resolution, which led to a closed-door negotiation.
According to a statement from the family’s legal team, the parties have now reached an out-of-court settlement, with Omowunmi consenting to the DNA test at an accredited medical facility in Lagos or another agreed location.
Joseph Aloba has agreed to cover all costs associated with the test. The court adopted the terms of this settlement as its judgment, also appointing officers to supervise the testing process to ensure its reliability.
This case forms part of a broader controversy surrounding Mohbad’s death at age 27, which spurred social media discussions and led to an investigation involving former associates.
Meanwhile, concerns over the investigation’s fairness and alleged interference during legal proceedings have been raised by international observers.
