Ayoola Babalola, a journalist with Souk TV, and six other journalists were arrested by the police while covering the #EndBadGovernance protest in Abuja.
Babalola, who has previously worked with Peoples Gazette and Sahara Reporters, announced the arrest on his WhatsApp status at 12:33 p.m.
In his message, Babalola stated, “I’ve been arrested, Comrades. I’m being held at Wuye Police Station. We are standing our ground and not releasing our devices.”
He also mentioned that he was detained alongside Comrade Samuel Victor and five others.
On Saturday in Abuja, police officers fired live bullets at a vehicle carrying journalists and hunger protesters.
The shooting at the Abuja National Stadium, where protesters had gathered, caused panic and forced journalists and protesters to flee for safety.
Prior to the incident, the police had instructed the protesters to vacate the Federal Capital Territory.
