Barely a week after gun-men killed two monarchs in Ekiti State, and abducted some school pupils and teachers, suspected kidnappers have invaded the palace of the Olukoro of Koro in Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State, and stiffed lives out of the monarch, Oba Peter Segun Aremu, and kidnapped his wife and two others.
Channel Television reports that the traditional ruler, said to be a retired army general, was shot dead in his palace on Thursday night with his wife and two others taken away.
Confirming the incident, the state government via a statement by Rafiu Ajakaye, the Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to Governor Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq, described the incident as reckless, shocking, and horrific.
Kwara governor, who is also the chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), condemned the killing of the monarch as well as the abduction of his wife and two others.
He also charged the security agencies not to spare any resources to track down the perpetrators, free the spouse and others taken away, and bring them to book.
“We will certainly get the perpetrators and ensure that this is their last crime against humanity,” the Governor said.
Mr AbdulRasaq added, “My profound condolences go to the people of Koro. Our hearts are broken, and we stand by them at this time and always.”
Meanwhile, the state police command have vowed to clamp down on the perpetrators and rescue the victims.
“The Kwara State Police Command, under the leadership of The Commissioner of Police CP Victor OLAIYA (psc+), expresses his heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and the entire community affected by this heinous act. Our prayers are with them during this challenging time,” the spokesperson of the Kwara Police Command Ejire-Adeyemi Toun said.
“Immediate and intensive investigations are underway to apprehend those criminals for this reprehensible act. We assure the public that no stone will be left unturned in ensuring that the perpetrators are brought to justice swiftly.”
Koro in Kwara is a neighbouring town of Irele/Oke Ako/Ipao/Oke Aiyedun and Ikole of Ekiti State. These Kwara/Ekiti brothers share farm boundaries.
