The Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, has ordered the immediate arrest of Nigerian Afrobeat singer, Seun Kuti.
The Afro Beat maestro in a video making round, assaulting a police officer on duty.
Kuti in the video was lambasting the policeman after slapping him, while the police operative did not retaliate in the video.
Kuti got angry with the officer, after the latter stopped his on an expressway in Lagos.
The video showed Fela’s son yelling saying; “You dey craze? You dey mad?”
But Mr Kuti via Instagram post however claimed that his action was to protect himself and his family from being killed by the policeman officer.
He said he has proof of his claims and will not press charges, adding those calling for his arrest should mind their business.
A statement by the Lagos State Command spokesman, Benjamin Hundeyin, quoting the IGP condemned the act and had ordered a speedy and full investigation into the cause of the assault and prosecution of Seun Kuti.
The statement reads, “The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, CFR has ordered the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command to arrest Afrobeat singer, Seun Kuti, who was captured on video assaulting a police officer in uniform.
“The IGP has equally ordered a speedy and full investigation into the remote and immediate cause(s) of the assault and prosecution of the suspect accordingly.
