The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences (ICPC) Commission, has formed partnership with the British High Commission, to tackle visa fraud in Nigeria.
During a meeting with Mr. Coran Oakley, the International Liaison Manager of the Home Office International Operations at the British High Commission in Abuja, the Chairman of the anti graft agency, Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, SAN emphasised the importance of the existing partnership and assured continued support.
He highlighted the ICPC’s commitment to prioritizing this collaboration under his leadership, recognizing the complexities involved in addressing visa-related corruption.
Dr. Aliyu expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, affirming that the ICPC is dedicated to working closely with the High Commission to dismantle visa racketeering networks. He also assured Mr. Oakley that the ICPC would allocate capable and integrity-driven staff to this crucial task.
Mr. Oakley reiterated the need for strengthened collaboration to combat organized immigration crime, particularly targeting those behind visa scams.
He emphasized the long-term nature of the partnership, aimed at protecting innocent Nigerians and simplifying the process of obtaining British visas.
Additionally, Mr. Oakley requested the deployment of trained ICPC officers to investigate visa fraud involving not only the UK but also countries like Germany, France, and Canada.
He proposed including a Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) representative in the team to facilitate seamless information exchange and document handling, reducing bureaucratic delays.
