Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has reinstated Chief Jonathan Zamuna as the paramount ruler of Piriga in the Lere local government area.
This decision reverses the dismissal carried out by former Governor Malam Nasir El-Rufa’i on May 22, 2023, just before the end of his tenure.
During a session with the State Council of Chiefs on July 4, Mr Sani underscored the critical role of traditional institutions in maintaining stability in Kaduna State and across Nigeria.
He stated that traditional rulers are vital partners in promoting good governance and ensuring community security, advocating for a respectful and collaborative relationship between the government and these institutions.
The governor said, “The traditionali Institution has remained a stabilising force in our communities and the state as a whole. Despite modern challenges, these institutions have shown resilience. Because of their closeness to the people, it is in the government’s best interest to treat traditional rulers with respect and work closely with them to deepen participation in governance and secure our communities.”
He further highlighted that traditional rulers are essential stakeholders and influencers, deserving respect and attention due to their significant role in shaping the state positively. He noted his longstanding respectful relationship with traditional institutions and reiterated his commitment to the rule of law and citizens’ engagement in governance.
Mr Sani affirmed his intention to fully comply with a court judgment issued on June 10, 2024, which ordered the reinstatement of Chief Jonathan Zamuna.
He therefore sought ongoing engagement with traditional institutions to address the development and security of Kaduna State.
