On October 1st, 2024, the city of Ibadan witnessed a defining moment in Nigeria’s hospitality industry as The Jagz Ibadan, a luxurious 5-star hotel, was officially commissioned by Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde.
Located in the prestigious Iyaganku area, the grand opening attracted dignitaries, business leaders, and key figures from across Nigeria and beyond.
Chairman and CEO of The Jagz Ibadan, Engr. Kayode Adegbulugbe, praised Governor Makinde’s infrastructure-driven administration, which has transformed Oyo State into an attractive hub for investment.
He likened the region’s current infrastructure boom to the era of late Obafemi Awolowo, crediting this progress for positioning Ibadan as a premier destination for both tourism and business.
Built in just 21 months by local firm El Sabio Construction, led by Engr. Tunji Akinboro and Bode Falope, the hotel reflects Nigeria’s capacity for excellence.
Engr. Adegbulugbe revealed that the project was executed without formal contracts but with integrity and efficient planning, showcasing the potential of indigenous companies to compete globally.
He further emphasised Africa’s role as the global epicenter of hospitality, with The Jagz Ibadan serving as a beacon of luxury aimed at re-establishing this fact on the world stage. With plans to expand across Nigeria and Africa within the next decade, the hotel is set to become a flagship of African hospitality.
Engr. Adegbulugbe highlighted how The Jagz aligns with Governor Makinde’s Omituntun 2.0 vision, which seeks to promote tourism and solid minerals exploration.
The hotel’s blend of luxury and comfort positions Ibadan as an ideal weekend escape for visitors from Lagos and beyond, offering a gateway to the historical and cultural sites of the region.
In a post-commissioning visit, the Ataoja of Osogboland, Oba Jimoh Oyetunji, led traditional rulers and religious leaders to The Jagz.
Expressing his admiration for the hotel’s grandeur, the Ataoja insisted that a similar project should be established in Osogbo, even specifying a desired location during his tour of the hotel’s facilities.
The Managing Director of The Jagz, Mr. Lugard Agbomoagan, shared that the Ataoja’s request followed a stunning view of the city from the hotel’s 4th-floor observation point.
