The newly sworn-in Chairman of Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye Local Council Development Area, Hon. Seyi Lawal Jakande, has attributed his victory at the polls to his track record as Vice Chairman for eight years and the strong desire of residents for continuity in governance.

In an interview with selected journalists, Jakande said his years as Vice Chairman gave him a deep understanding of the needs of the community, enabling him to design a forward-looking development plan tailored to residents’ aspirations.

“Having served as Vice Chairman for eight years, people appreciated the impact we made and wanted continuity. I had already developed an agenda that projected the next phase of growth for our community,” he stated.

While describing his emergence as Executive Chairman as a stepping stone rather than a “defining moment” in politics, Jakande noted that his previous role provided him with both political and administrative experience to hit the ground running from his first day in office.

He acknowledged that the election process came with challenges but stressed that his unwavering engagement with community members, consultation with political leaders, and well-structured agenda gave him an edge.

“Every contest has its challenges. But I stayed focused, consulted widely, and built on my relationship with the people. We knew their demands and had a clear plan to meet them,” he said.

Jakande also paid tribute to the legacy of his late father, describing it as a source of inspiration and goodwill that further boosted his public service journey.

“My father left an exciting legacy that impacted my public life. But beyond family ties, I have served diligently, supporting the administration to deliver on promises and implementing people-oriented programs,” he remarked.

Looking ahead, the Chairman pledged to sustain the achievements of the past administration while introducing fresh innovations in key sectors such as education, health, and sports.

“Government is a continuum. We will consolidate on what we have achieved, introduce new ideas, and enhance existing programs to make them more impactful. Our vision is clear, to take Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye to greater heights,” Jakande assured.
