The initiative, which received approval from the institution’s Governing Council, was formally unveiled by the Rector, Dr. (Mrs.) Basilia Nkemdilim Igbokwe, as a strategic platform designed to strengthen collaboration between the Polytechnic and parents or guardians of students.

The Rector explained that the Forum was established to deepen stakeholder engagement, improve communication between parents and the institution, and support the academic, moral, and overall development of students. She emphasized that the success of students requires active partnership between the institution and families.

To provide effective leadership for the newly inaugurated body, members of the Forum elected the following officers: Mr. Anslem Onuoha (Chairman); Dr. Obinna Iwueke (Vice-Chairman); Mr. Gabriel Nwaka (Secretary) and Mrs. Salvation Ubah (Assistant Secretary)

The leadership team is expected to guide the activities of the Forum and collaborate closely with the Polytechnic management in advancing initiatives that promote student welfare, academic excellence, and institutional development.

The establishment of the PMF therefore marks a significant step toward strengthening the partnership between the institution and parents in shaping the future of students at Federal Polytechnic Nekede.

Scholarship Initiatives: Breaking Gender Stereotypes
In line with her administration’s vision of inclusive education, Dr. Igbokwe announced a series of scholarship initiatives aimed at promoting gender equity and supporting marginalized groups.
Beneficiaries of the scholarship awards include:
– Female students in male-dominated departments such as Mechanical Engineering, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Building Technology, Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, and Taxation.
– Male students in female-dominated programmes, introduced as a new initiative to promote gender balance.
– Physically challenged students, continuing the institution’s 100% scholarship policy introduced the previous year.
– The first three students who paid their school fees and completed registration promptly.

“These scholarships are designed to eliminate stereotyped course mentality and foster an inclusive and enabling academic environment for all students,”_ the Rector stated.

The initiative has been widely praised for putting a holistic human face on polytechnic administration, encouraging diversity and promoting equal opportunities in technical education.

Rector’s Charge: Academic Excellence and Personal Responsibility
Delivering the Matriculation address, Dr. Igbokwe charged the newly matriculated students to embrace discipline, dedication, and responsibility in their academic pursuits.

“Your time in the Polytechnic is a planting season. Tend your farm carefully, and the harvest will reflect your diligence. Attend classes regularly, complete your assignments, and avoid all forms of antisocial activities.”

The Rector also highlighted several key institutional achievements under her administration, including:
