Fed Poly Nekede Revives Solemn Assembly Tradition Under Dr. Basilia Igbokwe’s Leadership

In a display of unity and commitment to institutional development, the Federal Polytechnic Nekede on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, held its 2nd Solemn and General Assembly under the administration of Dr. Mrs. Basilia Igbokwe.

The event marked a full revival of the traditional Solemn Assembly, which had been inactive for years, and saw an unprecedented attendance that extended beyond the 1,000-capacity auditorium.

The Solemn Assembly featured a praise and worship session led by staff ministers of the Polytechnic, with preachers urging the community to remain joyful and steadfast despite the challenges of the yuletide season.

The General Assembly, moderated by the School Orator, Dr. Anayo Uhiara, provided a platform for the institution’s unions to voice their concerns and contributions. Union leaders collectively expressed their unwavering support for Dr. Igbokwe’s administration, encouraging vigilance, diligence, and peace among staff and students to support her leadership’s developmental strides.

Dr. Mrs. Basilia Igbokwe, described as the “Daughter of Grace” and the “4R Rector” (Rescue, Recover, Reconstruct, Restore), addressed all concerns raised during the interactive session. She emphasized her administration’s commitment to delivering on its 11-point agenda, citing progress in key areas, including: revitalization of moribund factories like the Tissue Paper Factory, Polynek Water, and the Block Industry; Renovation of student hostels; Payment of staff arrears; collaboration with the National Population Commission for gender studies initiatives; restoration of electricity in previously neglected areas like SBMT; and successful training of 100 staff members in ICT skills through the sponsorship of NCC/DBI from Abuja.

Dr. Igbokwe reaffirmed her determination to pilot the institution towards achieving its collective goals, urging all staff to remain dedicated to their responsibilities.

She also assured stakeholders that the contest for the Rectorship was settled, with her leadership firmly steering the Polytechnic to greater heights.

The event concluded with a Peace March around the campus, demonstrating the community’s resolve for progress and unity. A press conference followed, drawing the presence of several notable media houses, including NTA, Channels, Arise TV, Punch, and host of others.
