Ex-Oyo Attorney General Questions Makinde’s Political Loyalty, Predicts Power Shift In 2027

A former Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in Oyo State, Barrister Mutalib Adebayo Ojo, SAN, has raised eyebrows over Governor Seyi Makinde’s political allegiance, suggesting ambiguity in the governor’s partisan identity.

In an interview with the Nigerian Tribune, Ojo remarked, “I cannot even say whether the governor is APC or PDP or if he’s APCPDP. Believe me.”

His comment comes amid a wave of political defections across the country, which he attributed to the lack of ideological grounding within Nigeria’s political parties and the constitutional right to freedom of association.

Ojo also declared his support for former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, as a strong contender for the 2027 governorship race, noting that he appears to have the backing of influential power brokers.

However, he disclosed that he would personally not vote for Adelabu, stressing the need for the governorship to rotate away from Ibadan to promote equity in the state’s political leadership.

Addressing national issues, the senior advocate acknowledged the economic hardship under President Bola Tinubu’s administration but expressed cautious optimism about the president’s reform policies.

He encouraged Tinubu to focus on legacy-building, urging him to emulate the visionary leadership of the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo.

On the growing insecurity across Nigeria, Ojo called for more proactive interventions from both federal and state governments.

He advocated for grassroots-level action and the creation of regional development agencies to address the unique challenges facing different zones in the country.
