A former Governor of Oyo State, Senator Rashidi Ladoja, has been nominated as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland by the Olubadan-In-Council.
The announcement was made on Monday during a meeting held at the Olubadan Palace in Oke-Aremo, Ibadan North Local Government Area.
The meeting was presided over by the Balogun of Ibadanland, High Chief Tajudeen Ajibola, who confirmed the council’s unanimous endorsement of Ladoja for the revered traditional stool.
High Chief Ajibola, speaking alongside the Osi Olubadan, High Chief Eddy Oyewole, stated that the nomination will now be forwarded to Governor Seyi Makinde for final approval and the official presentation of the Staff of Office.
“We, the members of the Olubadan-In-Council, have all signed and nominated Oba Rashidi Ladoja as the new Olubadan of Ibadanland,” Ajibola said.
“The resolutions of our meeting will be sent to Governor Seyi Makinde, who will decide on the date for the formal installation, ” he added.
Ajibola praised Ladoja’s leadership qualities and contributions to the state, noting that his experience as a former governor and his longstanding ties to the Ibadan community make him well-suited for the role.
“His track record and connection to the people of Ibadanland position him as the right leader to steer us into a new era of peace, unity, and development,” he added.
Ajibola also indicated that while the nomination has been finalized, the coronation will not hold this week due to the scheduled burial of the late Olubadan, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, who passed away recently at the age of 90 after barely a year on the throne.
Governor Makinde is expected to announce a suitable date for the coronation in the coming weeks.
Ladoja’s nomination marks a significant moment in the traditional leadership of Ibadanland, following a royal succession process rooted in age-long customs and seniority.
