A 20-year-old man stabbed and killed a guard of Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II on Sunday, March 30, at the Eid prayer ground in Kano.
The Nigeria Police confirmed that the attacker struck during the prayer session, fatally wounding the guard who was protecting the Emir.
Another security personnel at the scene sustained injuries and is currently receiving treatment at Murtala Muhammad Hospital in Kano.
Abdullahi Kiyawa, spokesperson for the Kano State Police Command, stated that an investigation into the incident is underway.
He also confirmed that Alhaji Wada Isyaku, the Shamakin Kano and a palace official, has been invited for questioning as part of the probe.
“The police have commenced an investigation into the incident and have invited the Kano Emirate’s Shamakin Kano, Alhaji Wada Isyaku, for questioning,” Kiyawa said.
Authorities have yet to disclose the motive behind the attack, as the investigation continues.
