El-Rufai Probe: Fmr APC Vice Chairman Warns Kaduna Gov Of Imminent Political Downfall

Salihu Lukman, the immediate-past National Vice Chairman, North-west, of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has issued a stern warning to Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State, predicting that he and President Bola Tinubu will be ousted from office within the next three years.

Lukman criticised the governor for targeting his predecessor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, suggesting that Sani’s actions are part of a larger proxy war for the presidency.

In a detailed letter titled “Issues of Politics and Governance in Kaduna: The Truth”, Lukman cautioned Governor Sani against setting dangerous precedents that could ultimately backfire.

While harping on the transient nature of political power, he reminded Sani of the crucial support he (Sani) received from El-Rufai, which facilitated his rise to governorship.

Lukman accused both Sani and President Tinubu of exhibiting autocratic tendencies that threaten the democratic progress Nigeria has made over the past 25 years.

He lamented the lack of meaningful political engagement within the APC, contrasting it with the democratic ideals the party purportedly stands for.

Lukman also expressed frustration over his own treatment within the party, which has driven him to reconsider his involvement.

Highlighting the need for urgent reforms within the APC, Lukman declared his intention to mobilise for change and work towards the party’s defeat in the 2027 elections if the current leadership continues on its present course.

He stressed that unless both the governor and the president embrace reform, they would face significant political repercussions, particularly in Kaduna State.

Lukman praised former Governor El-Rufai for his development initiatives in Kaduna, contrasting his tenure with the current administration’s actions.

He described the ongoing probe by the House of Assembly, led by Hon. Ibrahim Zailani, as politically motivated and mismanaged, suggesting it reflects poorly on Sani’s leadership.

The former vice chairman noted that internal conflicts and poor leadership have marred Sani’s administration, implicating the presidency in the discord and highlighting the alleged opposition to El-Rufai from higher political levels.

This opposition, he claimed, fueled unnecessary drama around El-Rufai’s ministerial nomination.

Lukman concluded by pointing out El-Rufai’s failure to build strong relationships within the state as a significant weakness but maintained that the current deterioration in leadership quality is primarily due to Governor Sani’s handling of state affairs post-El-Rufai.
