Former spokesman for the Atiku Abubakar/Ifeanyi Okowa presidential campaign, Daniel Bwala, has clarified his conditional support for President Bola Tinubu.
Bwala stated that his allegiance to Tinubu is not unconditional and he would not hesitate to withdraw support if the President breaches Nigeria’s constitution or democratic values.
During an interview on Arise TV on Wednesday, Bwala emphasised his willingness to part ways with the President if necessary.
He reminisced about his time supporting former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, noting that he fully committed to Atiku’s campaign, adding he felt compelled to support Tinubu after the conclusion of the presidential election.
Reflecting on his political journey, Bwala explained, “Supporting Atiku was fulfilling, and I devoted myself entirely during that period. However, post-election, I saw the need to back Tinubu, given the changed political landscape. It’s an honor to contribute to good governance under his administration.”
Bwala, who was initially a staunch supporter of Asiwaju before shifting to Atiku, explained that returning to Tinubu was not a drastic change.
He reiterated his belief in Tinubu’s leadership, stating, “The only scenario where I would withdraw my support is if President Tinubu contravenes the constitution or democratic principles, which I find unlikely as he is committed to strengthening our nation’s foundation and economy.”
